Tax Help New Mexico is a free tax-filing resource for people whose household income is $57,000 or less or those who are 65 years or older.

For free tax preparation offered by United Way of Central New Mexico (UWCNM) you must book an available appointment time at our Albuquerque location or at CNM Montoya campus. Currently, we are no longer scheduling tax prep appointments, we will resume scheduling starting in July and will have ongoing appointment availability until October. Starting June 20, clients will have the option to either call at 505-224-5997 or schedule online on the website.

TAX HELP CHECKLIST OF NEEDED ITEMS TO BRING

Proof of Identification

Tax payer(s) must have a valid photo ID (Driver license, state issued ID, passport, military ID, tribal ID)

SOCIAL SECURITY CARD(S)

Social Security number or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for yourself, your spouse, your dependents or anyone else on your return

BIRTH DATES

For you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

INCOME FORMS

Wage and earnings statements (W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc) and Interest and Dividend statements from banks

EXPENSE FORMS

All 1098 Forms, child or dependent care expenses (Daycare provider tax id # required), property tax payments

BANK INFORMATION

Bring your bank routing & account number for direct deposit (e.g.: blank check). If you do not have a bank account, please visit the Bank On Burque website for information on where to access safe, affordable, and functioning checking accounts.

PROOF OF HEALTHCARE

Form 1095-A, B and C, Health Coverage Statements or Health Insurance Exemption Certificate (if received)

MARRIED FILING JOINTLY

Both spouses must be present with proper documentation to complete tax return

OTHER DOCUMENTS (LETTER 6419 IF YOU RECEIVED ANY ADVANCED CHILD TAX CREDITS IN 2021)

A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available, and all other tax-related documents (Taxpayers who received advance payments can also check amounts using the CTC Update Portal and Online Account on IRS.gov. Eligible families who didn’t receive advance child tax credit payments can claim the full amount of the child tax credit on their 2021 federal tax return. This includes families who don’t normally need to file a tax return.)
