As we started our DEI journey, we planned to start with staff training, but soon realized that we needed to assess our culture. To be intentional about this work we needed to take our time to be thorough and thoughtful. We hired Solfire Consulting Group (SCG) to help guide us in that work. The first step was hosting focus groups with staff.
SCG, founded by Dr. Placida Gallegos, specializes in strategic culture change work, supporting organizations in recognizing and more fully utilizing their diverse talent and untapped potential through the practice of inclusive leadership.
Dr. Placida Gallegos has been an organization development consultant and executive coach for the past 30 years engaged in supporting diverse individuals, groups, and organizations in thriving and achieving optimal outcomes. Her work spans a wide range of industries including corporations, non-profits, educational institutions, and governmental agencies. Our contract with SCG has been critical in our next steps to determine how we to further our internal learning as well as extending this work out into the community. As of July 20th, 2020, SCG has conducted an internal DEI audit of UWCNM, including extensive data gathering via focus groups and surveys, with the goal of co-creating clear DEI goals, metrics, and a roadmap for UWCNM’s future DEI work. SCG has also worked closely with the DEI committee to ensure that the DEI goals and roadmap and implemented and led by staff, while also paying attention to leadership’s role in fostering change.
