Community Impact Grants

We are excited to announce that this year, because of our generous donors, we were able to give out 2.5 million in grant money to 64 nonprofit programs in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties.

Through a combination of collaborative change projects, public policy advocacy, community mobilization efforts, and grantmaking, UWCNM is now working with hundreds of community partners to focus and align our community around a set of shared strategies designed to improve family stability and educational attainment. We call this focus on family stability and education, Mission: Families and Mission: Graduate, respectively. These two inititiatives represent a comprehensive approach to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families at scale in our central New Mexico region.

To that end, this new focus has set the stage for a revitalization of our funding process. This past year, we conducted numerous listening and learning sessions with community leaders, agencies, volunteers, and families to align grantmaking with our Impact goals. As a result of these conversations, UWCNM now has three new grant categories:

1) Impact Grants that focus on education/youth development and family stability.

2) Basic Needs Grants support emergent needs, such as food and emergency shelter.

3) Capacity Building Grants improve a nonprofit's ability to fullfill its mission.

The Grant Process

United Way staff works closely with community volunteers to ensure grant dollars are invested wisely, supporting the most needed services in our local communities. Find out more about our community-driven process by reviewing the Grant Process Document.
