Ed Rivera has been the President and CEO of United Way of Central New Mexico (UWCNM) since 2008. Since his arrival, UWCNM has completed a community-based strategic planning process that included broad community engagement.
A key outgrowth of the plan led UWCNM to accept the convening role for a community-wide collaborative education support initiative, Mission: Graduate. This cradle to career support strategy is affiliated with the national Strive Together partnership.
Leading the Way in New Mexico
UWCNM is also recognized for fundraising successes as a promoter of measured impact in a comprehensive donor engagement and response model. In conjunction with other United Ways in the state of New Mexico, he has led the facilitation and development of a new statewide association to benefit the United Ways of New Mexico. Ed is a member of the United Way Worldwide National Professional Council and participates in many local community groups including Quality New Mexico, Rotary and the Economic Forum.
The Road to UWCNM
Prior to joining UWCNM, Ed was a Principal with Kittleman and Associates, a leader in nonprofit leadership resources. During this period, he consulted with leading non-profit organizations and associations throughout the United States. Previous to his work at Kittleman, Mr. Rivera served as the founding President of the Cancer Treatment Research Foundation, a national organization pioneering translational and nutritional research in oncology.
Earlier in his career, he served the national United Way movement in numerous capacities. In addition to CEO positions in Boulder, Colorado; Corpus Christi, Texas; and San Jose, California, Ed served as Senior Vice President and Acting President for the United Way/Crusade of Mercy in Chicago.
Mr. Rivera is a graduate of Colorado College and also completed an executive leadership program at Santa Clara University and an executive marketing program at Northwestern University.
