The 2007 UWCNM fall fund drive raised a record $23.1 Million dollars. Donors chose to give $13.5 Million directly to agencies, most of which are in central New Mexico. Over 2,116 organizations received donations averaging $6,300 per agency. Donors also chose to give $6 million to the United Way Community Fund. This fund is what creates large grants for local organizations. This year 96 programs received Community Fund Grants averaging over $54,000 per agency.

All local nonprofits are able to apply for Community Fund Grants. It is an open, competitive process focused on helping the most vulnerable people in our community. Over 300 local volunteers, acting on behalf of all donors, actually visit the agencies who apply for these grants to assess the measurable impact of their services as well as the reliability of the organization. These volunteers decide which programs to fund and at what levels. It is a quality assurance effort that is unique to United Way and the Community Fund.

The Community Fund has been the backbone of core human services in our community for the last 74 years. It provides sizable grants for substantial and reliable services that most agencies depend on to address the many needs of their clients. Together these grants form a support network for all human service organizations. This year while the need was greater, the Community Fund was smaller.

This year we received nearly $10 M in requests for Community Fund Grants, much more than we had to distribute. On average, programs received half of what they asked for to provide core services for our community. This could create real problems in the human service delivery system in greater Albuquerque. Protect your investment in designated gifts by also giving to the Community Fund.
